A new category for people who previously held a residence permit in Spain (other than those for exceptional circumstances) and were unable to renew it, allowing them to recover a regular status without needing new employment contracts.

Who is it for?
Non-EU nationals who held a residence permit within the last 2 years, lost it because they could not renew it, and were not refused on public-order grounds.
Main requirements
- Be a national of a country outside the European Union
- Be in an irregular situation in Spain after losing a previous permit
- Have held a residence permit within the last 2 years
- Have no criminal record and no refusal on public-order grounds
Duration
1 year, renewable
Usual documentation
- Full valid passport
- Proof of the previous residence permit you held
- Certificate of registration (empadronamiento)
- Criminal record certificate from your country of origin and from Spain
- Application form (form EX-10) and payment of the fee
