Residence and self-employment permit (autónomo)

Initial temporary residence and self-employment permit for foreign nationals who are going to carry out an economic activity as self-employed workers or entrepreneurs in Spain. It is applied for from outside Spain by means of a visa.

Who is it for?

Non-EU nationals residing abroad who wish to establish themselves in Spain to carry out a self-employed activity as an autónomo (self-employed worker) or sole trader.

Main requirements

  • Be a national of a country outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland (and not a family member with the right of free movement)
  • Apply from outside Spain, with a visa (not being irregularly in Spanish territory)
  • Have no criminal record in Spain or in your countries of residence over the last 5 years

Duration

1 year (limited to a geographic area and business sector), renewable.

Usual documentation

  • Application form (EX-07)
  • Valid passport or travel document
  • Criminal record certificate from your country or countries of residence over the last 5 years
  • Qualification, professional credential or proven experience, plus any required professional-body membership/licences
  • Documentation proving the planned investment and its sufficiency (business plan, impact on job creation)

Authority: Spanish Consular Offices in the applicant's place of residence (Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration).
